Watch the new video for Bad Night at Black's Beach

Today, L.A. Takedown shares their new song and video, "Bad Night at Black's Beach," off their forthcoming album, II (as in the Roman numeral for 2), out 12th May on Domino. The band is becoming known for their highly stylized videos (like the psychedelic desert journey of "Night Skiing" that premiered with NPR Music last month), and "Bad Night" is no exception. The video very quickly shifts in mood from 2 Fast 2 Furious to Too Cute. Here's what director Matt Hewitt had to say about the video:

“Aaron and I had spoken about emulating the credit sequence from Flight of the Navigator for years. Dogs catching frisbees in slow motion! Of course, the filming turned out to be challenging. It definitely gave me a newfound respect for any dog that could pull off an aerial catch, and a deeper respect for our director of photography/camera operator, David Feeney-Mosier.”

On their new album II, L.A. Takedown align the moody grandeur of a film score with the pure melodicism of pop. Led by Los Angeles-based composer/multi-instrumentalist Aaron M. Olson, the seven-piece band delivers a guitar-driven take on synth-pop that’s inspired its own genre. “Bjorn Copeland of Black Dice once described L.A. Takedown to me as ‘Baywatch Krautrock,’” Olson recalls. “I found myself saying, ‘Well, you know…it’s not not that—works for me!” Still, despite any association with oceanic hedonism, II ultimately leaves it to the listener to dream up their own imaginary movie for each beautifully sprawling track to live in.

II is available to pre-order now on limited edition translucent green vinyl, CD, and digital download.
