Superorganism share new track "Into The Sun" featuring Stephen Malkmus, Gen Hoshino and Pi Ja Ma

Next month sees the arrival of World Wide Pop, Superorganism’s brilliant second album (due July 15th); thirteen tracks that strike a balance between artifice and earnestness, between sci-fi silliness and existential intensity. Today, Superorganism reveal the last teaser before the full record is unleashed, the alt-rock-channeling “Into The Sun”, featuring legendary Japanese actor and musician Gen Hoshino (who the band have worked with before) as well as cameos from Stephen Malkmus (one of his three appearance on the album), and Pi Ja Ma. The fact that all of these artists were easily able to enter the World Wide Pop universe is a testament to the Superorganism ethos, which prioritizes curiosity, connectedness, and pleasure-seeking experimentation over just about everything else.

Talking about the song, Harry says: “The whole record is all about combining different worlds and scales, so it was a real thrill to be able to mix Gen into a track with Malkmus and Pi Ja Ma. It's a carefree song, somewhat about being in your own bubble, so bringing those French, American, and Japanese artists into that world reconnects the SuperO universe with these other bubbles - a bit of a multiverse!” Orono adds: “It all came together super naturally, a cute little lovebug song moment”

On the video for “Into The Sun” (directed by AEVA, with 2D animation, illustration & compositing by Neirin Best, 3D animation by Nicholas Barnes and concept by Superorganism), Harry comments: “The video for “Into The Sun” stemmed from the lyric about being a fruit fly, watching the world go by, whilst nature and time flow by around you. We liked the idea that the seed planted by one person can grow into a tree that is enjoyed by another, and that the fruit of that tree provides the seed of the next. Gen Hoshino as a fly buzzing around cracks me up too.”

Superorganism World Wide Pop

Album | 15th July 2022

Superorganism return with their second album World Wide Pop in July, their first new music since 2018’s self-titled debut.

Blasting back with thirteen tracks that explore the infinite versus the intimate, taking in friendship, time, connectedness, and the universe; World Wide Pop contemplates the contradiction of being hopeful and curious when faced with relentless consumerism and overwhelming noise. However choosing optimism, Superorganism believe in the power of pop music and all the things it can do. World Wide Pop bridges the personal and existential whilst delivering a bag full of tunes laced with deadpan humour.

World Wide Pop also brings in an international set of collaborators including Stephen Malkmus, CHAI, Pi Ja Ma, Dylan Cartlidge & legendary musician and actor Gen Hoshino.
