Patrick Watson has released a video for “Here Comes the River”, taken from his new album Wave, out now on Secret City (Canada) / Domino (rest of the world).

Arizona O’Neill
, who directed the video, says, “Everyone who hears this song relates to it profoundly in one way or another. It morphs for each person, depending on their personal experiences. I wanted to capture the raw emotions of the song by stripping away all gimmicks and filming Patrick singing on our city’s public pianos. It was important to film in Montreal because he is from the city and is so beloved here. Patrick has an amazing stage presence and to be able to capture that I had to get him in front of a real audience. This way I could also capture the happy, sad, and nostalgic feelings that the song evokes through the eyes of listeners. My favourite part of the video, however, was filming Patrick on an enormous swan paddle boat in the middle of the canal.”

Since its release on October 18, 2019, Wave was featured in NPR’s New Music Friday as one of their Top 10 Albums out that week, praised as “delicate, fragile, and beautiful.”

Patrick and the band also recently performed Wave selections “Here Comes The River” for CBC’s Q and “Dream For Dreaming” for CBC Music’s First Play.

Patrick Watson will be embarking an extensive worldwide tour in support of Wave, which will include performances beginning January 2020 at Los Angeles’ Lodge Room, New York’s Webster Hall, Chicago’s Thalia Hall, Nashville’s The Basement East and more.

This coming November, he’ll also support The Cinematic Orchestra, who he collaborated with on “To Build A Home”, on two special dates including San Francisco’s Regency Ballroom and Los Angeles’ Walt Disney Concert Hall. Complete tour dates and tickets are available at patrickwatson.net.

Patrick Watson Wave

Album | 18th October 2019

Watson’s sixth studio album is about having a wave knock you over when you realize everything you have in life can be wiped away in a moment – and then learning how not to drown in the process.  The songs are about how sometimes you have to sing a love song to yourself when no one else will, allowing the sound carry you and learning to trust where you will land. It is very personal and intimate, and it is the most humble of all their records.
