Jon Hopkins announces Polarity Tour for 2020
9th September 2019
It is with great pleasure that Jon Hopkins shares the news of his new Polarity tour for 2020. The tour follows his incredibly successful Singularity tour, which saw him perform sold out solo live shows, festival dates and DJ appearances across the globe.
Taking in London’s Royal Albert Hall, Gateshead’s Sage, Brighton’s Dome, Paris’ Salle Pleyel, Helsinki’s Music Centre and Berlin’s Philharmonie amongst others, Polarity will tether together “the two disparate elements of harsh and fragile in my music,” Hopkins says. “And by going between the two, we’ll hopefully create some profound moments of stillness.” Playing grand piano for parts of the show, he will be joined on stage by a small group of consummate musicians and long-time friends - acclaimed producer and guitarist Leo Abrahams, violinist and arranger Emma Smith and cellist Laura Moody.
Presenting his live show in a seated venue will present a fascinating challenge for both performer and audience. “Right now I have a set that’s tailored to festivals and to standing crowds and intoxicated people,” he says, “and that’s been amazing, but I would say my deepest nature lies in the stillness, the meditative side of my music.”
Regarded by The New Yorker as “One of the most celebrated electronic musicians of his generation”, over the course of five solo albums - as well as collaborations with Brian Eno, David Lynch and King Creosote, and film scores for The Lovely Bones and Monsters, Hopkins has forged a reputation for music that marries the dancefloor to the devotional, and for live performances that are visceral, generous, charged with a rapt, sensuous beauty.
