How To Dress Well shares new single “Body Fat”
15th October 2018
Today, we're pleased to share "Body Fat," the new single from the new How To Dress Well record The Anteroom – which comes out this Friday Oct 19th. "Body Fat" is a pulsing, heartbreaking song that reckons with the difficulty of overcoming the dread and fear and trauma we've inherited from our ancestors.
Tom Krell of How To Dress Well says: "The song is about the intergenerational transmission of trauma – about the way rage persists in the flesh from way before you as an individual. This is why life is painful, why love is difficult... When I first started writing it, I felt like 'damn THIS is the song I've been trying to write for the last 5 years." "Body Fat" is in many ways the sonic and thematic connective tissue that brings together various strands of Krell's work, from the noisy lullabies of Love Remains and Total Loss, to the lilting pop of What Is This Heart? and Care.
The video was written by Krell, features 3D modeling and animation by Aron Johnson aka Crash Override (who has worked with Flying Lotus, Kanye West, the Weeknd), and was co-directed by Justin Daashuur Hopkins and Krell. The video was produced by NOH / WAVE, who are also collaborating on Krell's forthcoming tour visuals.
Long known for producing genre-jumping mixes, often interspersed with new and unreleased music of his own, How To Dress Well has also shared “If We Do Feel Empty Inside, What Are We Supposed To Do About It?” – a new mix containing music that influenced and inspired The Anteroom. The full tracklisting is available via the listening link HERE.
The Anteroom will be available on CD, double LP, digital retail and streaming platforms on October 19, 2018. A Domino Mart exclusive 2xLP that features heavyweight silver vinyl, fold out poster/booklet, and an etched clear 10” vinyl that features 2 exclusive songs is available to pre-order now. The CD and LP feature different album covers, each designed by Joshua James Clancy.
How To Dress Well’s European tour kicks off tonight in London, with the US dates commencing on November 12th in Washington, DC. The ambitious new live A/V show is a solo performance, in three separate acts of uninterrupted song sequence, and features the hallmarks of the HTDW experience - emotional singing, ambient lushness, and pummeling electronic sound. Krell will take the stage against video art he has created with NOH/WAVE, which will react to the sound in the environment and transform spontaneously. Krell is touring with an all-hardware setup, including an experimental live vocal rig that allows him to trigger and disintegrate sounds with his voice. Get tickets here: http://howtodresswell.com/
