George FitzGerald releases remixes of "Mother" by Pretty Girl & himself

Following the digital release of his spellbinding EP, Not As I, today George FitzGerald releases two remixes of “Mother”: one by rising star of Australia’s underground dance scene, Pretty Girl and the other by himself.    

Where the original version features a slower, beautiful piano melody set against hypnotic beats, Pretty Girl transforms the single into a high energy, emotive house track. Adding her own vocal line to create a call and response effect with SYML’s vocals, it pays homage to the original whilst bringing it into a completely new league of its own. "I loved the tone of the original track and wanted to rework it into a moody club heater, whilst still incorporating the haunting feel of the vocals,” Pretty Girl comments. “I wanted to display the continuation of the motif of losing control through the production."   

By beautiful contrast, George’s remix of the track layers even more mesmeric beats onto the original, creating a trippy, tantalisingly new sound. “I feel the remixes complement each other perfectly,” says George. “My version looks to the past. I was thinking of the time I used to work behind the counter at Blackmarket Records (RIP) and go through all the US house imports. Beautifully simple and timeless music. I haven’t made something stripped back like that for a while so this felt right. Pretty Girl’s version looks forwards. It’s a fantastic, contemporary take on the original. I’m thrilled she made the track her own by adding her own vocals. It’s not a common approach with remixes but it works brilliantly here.”   

The original version of the track, which features SYML, the solo project of American artist Brian Fennell who recently collaborated with Lana Del Rey on her new album on the track “Paris, Texas”, was released to wide-spread acclaim, becoming an instant favourite amongst the likes of Pete Tong, Clara Amfo, Steve Lamaq and the Evening Standard.
