Dan Deacon releases video for "Fell Into The Ocean"; kicking off North American tour next week

“[Dan Deacon’s] songs are densely arranged, with layers upon layers of synths and drums jockeying to be heard. Deacon's concerts, famously, are no less frenetic.” - NPR’s All Things Considered

“Wild energy floods the rest of Mystic Familiar, but it’s controlled chaos, expressed through a bevy of electronics, but also piano, strings and saxophone.” - Billboard

“The music of Dan Deacon is the sonic equivalent of Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time: colorful, maximalist, experimental, and a little surreal.” - Bandcamp

Last month, Dan Deacon released his new album, Mystic Familiar, “a study in vulnerability and the simultaneous jubilance and anxiety that often accompany it” [Interview].

Today, he presents a video for Mystic Familiar’s “Fell Into the Ocean.” Directed by Ariel Fish, it features a guided meditation deck of cards created by Deacon, which ties together the concept of the Mystic Familiar through a 3 stage guided meditation. The deck of cards will be available on Deacon’s upcoming lengthy North American tour, which kicks off next week.

Dan and I originally connected over Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategies, which is a deck of cards used to help you creatively unblock yourself,” says director Ariel Fish. “In the video we wanted to do a sort of homage to Oblique Strategies by creating a deck of cards featuring ‘Fell Into The Ocean’ lyrics which would encourage the characters to find answers to their dilemmas within.

Recently, Dan shared “The Making of Mystic Familiar,” a mini-documentary that details the creation of Mystic Familiar. He was also featured on NPR’s All Things Considered. Next month, he will appear on NPR’s Ask Me Another on March 6th, and later today, he will be answering questions via a Reddit Indieheads AMA at 3pm EST.
