Braxe + Falcon Release "Elevation" Featuring Sunni Colón

Pioneering French House architects Alan Braxe & DJ Falcon return with new single “Elevation” feat. Los Angeles singer, songwriter and installation artist Sunni Colón. This is the third single released from their highly anticipated debut Step By Step EP out digitally June 24th via Domino’s new dance/electronic-focused imprint Smugglers Way with the vinyl release coming on August 26th. “Elevation” exudes a kaleidoscopic vibrancy as Braxe & Falcon’s paradigmatic production paints a beautiful canvas for Colón’s vocals. A funky bassline contrasts pleasantly against a slew of other-worldly synths, the final product is a refreshing addition to the legacy of French House. When reflecting back on working with the two French legends, Colón notes, “‘Elevation’ stemmed from the many sessions I had with Alan and Falcon in Biarritz. We made so much music together and I am very happy that ‘Elevation’ can now be heard. They opened a new door of production to me that I found to be emancipatory. These are my brothers. They really love music and have a full understanding of what it means to be true vessels of legacy."

When describing the creative process for “Elevation,” Alan Braxe notes, “It all started at the entrance of a recording studio in Biarritz, France on a very hot day during a heatwave.

We played Sunni five or six demos, he picked up one and almost instantly wrote lyrics and melody, it was all soft and melancholic, perfectly matching the music. We took a break outside, the temperature was rising, unbearable, back in the studio, the song was acting like a refreshment, cooling our bodies and mind and we all felt like we were onto something special. That’s the magic with recording sessions, interactions between new encounters, external factors, all of it in a limited time trying to capture emotions.”

Braxe + Falcon announced their first-ever collaboration earlier this year with ecstatic receptions from fans and press alike. Coming in the form of two singles “Step By Step” feat. Panda Bear and “Creative Source,” the announcement of their new project garnered attention from the likes of Pitchfork, Stereogum, Flood, and The Fader. The collaboration between the two legends serves to create a modern duo the likes of which we have rarely seen in the world of electronic music.

Alan Braxe is known for making some of the most important and iconic house and pop music records of the late 90s and early 2000s including “Music Sounds Better With You” (The Upper Cuts) as Stardust with Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter and official remixes for Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Kelis, Kylie Minogue and more. Bangalter also collaborated with DJ Falcon in the early days, releasing the French Touch anthem “So Much Love To Give" as the duo Together. Along with quintessential remixes for Phoenix, Cassius and Justice, Falcon most recently co-produced / wrote and featured on “Contact,” the explosive closing track of Daft Punk’s 2013 megalith Random Access Memories.

"In the early 2000s we each released our first respective music projects in collaboration with Thomas Bangalter on his Roulé label. It was a time of youthful nonchalance in which we barely knew what we were doing. It was a world of discovery, just making music without any preconceived notions or rules. Our state of mind at the time was very DIY, similar to punk, but with different types of instruments. Twenty years later the musical landscape and tools to make music have changed exponentially and become more complicated. Using modular synthesizers in the production of our new music and the happy accidents they generate have helped us reconnect with the punk spirit of the early days, freeing ourselves from convention. Our love for the oscillation between melancholy and hope that emerges from our use of repeated musical phrases and loops is as inspiring to us today as it was twenty years ago."

Braxe + Falcon Step By Step EP

EP | 26th August 2022

Alain and Stéphane Quême, or Alan Braxe and DJ Falcon, are indisputable architects of the French Touch - the emotive house music conjured from looped samples with an inimitable Gallic flare that emerged from Paris in the mid 90s.

In 2022 these two originals will present their first ever collaboration as Braxe & Falcon in the form of the Step By Step EP, released on Smugglers Way. The release represents a sublime distillation of their shared musical essence, a revelatory realization and a compelling expansion only conceivable for them at this point in time.

It opens with “Step By Step,” an ecstatic vocal drone with a pleading chord progression of syrupy synthesizer, as if Braxe’s “In Love With You” had been baking on the dashboard for a quarter of a century. The production alone is hypnotic, with the addition of a vocal from noted French touch fan Panda Bear the track transcends anything in the catalogues of all three artists to something completely majestic, resplendent in its glowing, lush simplicity.

  • 2Love Me
