Richard Dawson shares video for "Horse and Rider"
24th January 2023
At the end of last year, Richard Dawson put out his seventh album The Ruby Cord, it was perhaps the final part of a trilogy that started with the pre-medieval world of Peasant, was brought back to the present day with 2020 and - possibly - concludes in the future with The Ruby Cord.
After recent collaborations with Finnish metal innovators Circle and his work with Hen Ogledd, the new record was a return to Dawson’s own world with seven tracks that plunged us into an unreal, fantastical and at times sinister future where social mores have mutated, ethical and physical boundaries have evaporated… a place where you no longer needed to engage with anyone but yourself and your own imagination.
Breaking of convention with its 41-minute opening track “The Hermit”, The Ruby Cord swiftly garnered critical acclaim for the Geordie bard and picked up several Album of the Year spots. Today, Dawson is pleased to share the video for “Horse and Rider” – a mere eight-minute number from the record. Directed by Richard and Hen Ogledd/ Bulbils’ Sally Pilkington, the video features Richard riding an imaginary horse and brings back the much-missed dance break.
Additionally, Dawson has announced his first ever live dates in the United States including two headline shows and support slots with Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs (Dawson recorded The Ruby Cord with Pigsx7’s Sam Grant).

Richard Dawson The Ruby Cord
Album | 18th November 2022
Pop in your earpiece, close your eyes and embrace the wonders (and horrors) of augmented reality and prepare to travel 500 years into the future as Richard Dawson returns with…The Ruby Cord. These seven tracks plunge us into an unreal, fantastical and at times sinister future where social mores have mutated, ethical and physical boundaries have evaporated; a place where you no longer need to engage with anyone but yourself and your own imagination. It’s a leap into a future that is well within reach, in some cases already here.
