Owen Pallett Releases Expanded & Remastered Reissues of Early Catalog

Domino is pleased to release expanded, remastered reissues of Owen Pallett’s early catalog, out now.  The series—originally released under the name Final Fantasy— includes the albums Has A Good Home (2005) and He Poos Clouds (2006), as well as two EPs Spectrum, 14th Century and Plays to Please (both 2008) combined into one 12” full length release.  These recordings have been remastered by João Carvalho at Revolution, and is available on vinyl, and digitally as deluxe editions, with rare tracks, B-sides, music from compilations, and previously unreleased material.

Some of the many highlights include a remastered version of Joanna Newsom’s “Peach, Plum, Pear,” previously available on the 2006 Final Fantasy EP, Young Canadian Mothers and Owen’s version of The Strokes’ “Hard to Explain,” previously available on Stereogum’s STROKED:  A Tribute to Is This It.

This spring, Owen Pallett and the Hidden Cameras will be co-headlining Europe to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Hidden Cameras’ The Smell of Our Own. The Smell Of Our Own is a seminal document of Toronto’s early-2000s scene, which cross-pollinated between the arts, music, DIY and queer communities.  Pallett was both a member of the band and a contributor to this album.  “It felt like a party on stage, we were part of a big gay, fertile scene in Toronto.  It was a celebratory time in our lives.”

Owen Pallett The Two EPs

Album | 24th February 2023

Domino is pleased to announce a remastered reissue of Owen Pallett’s early catalogue, including pairing these two EPs together for their wider release.

Pallett has built a reputation on live virtuosity, as violinist for the many local Toronto bands, followed by the wild looped-violin songwriting solo project. The first EP (side A), Spectrum, 14th Century, originally released in 2008, is a “prequel” to Pallett’s celebrated album Heartland (2010), set in the same fictional world of Spectrum. Pallett “When I realized Heartland was going to be a ‘fantasy’ album, I imagined that the Spectrum EP would serve as a map of the countryside, as one would find in the first pages of a fantasy novel.”

The second EP (side B), Plays to Please, also released in 2008, is Pallett’s tribute to Van Dyke Parks’ arrangement style, and is their first foray into full orchestral production. In the spirit of Nilsson Plays Newman, it is a collection of interpretations of the works of songwriter Alex Lukashevsky.
